A 75-year-old patient, who was waiting for a cornea transplant at Muğla Training and Research Hospital, received a cornea transplant.
The patient, who applied to Muğla Training and Research Hospital Ophthalmology Polyclinic with the complaint of vision loss after cataract surgery and had been waiting for a cornea for a long time, was successfully transplanted with a cornea taken from a person who died after a traffic accident and whose family had donated an organ.
The surgery that was performed under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Aylin Karalezli, Head of the Ophthalmology Department, by Ass. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Cem Şimşek and his team, was also the first cornea transplant surgery in the city.
After the transplant surgery, Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Çiçek, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Sirri Sunay Gurleyuk, Prof. Dr. Ali Bayrakdaroglu, Prof. Dr. Artay Yagci, Muğla Provincial Health Director Dr. İskender Gencer, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Nevres Hürriyet Aydoğan and Chief Physician Assoc. Dr. Turhan Togan visited the patient at the clinic.
During the visit, the bandage of the patient was opened by Prof. Dr. Aylin Karalezli, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology
The University’s Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Çiçek asserted that he was proud of the transplant team because such important surgeries could be performed in Muğla and thanked everyone who contributed to the process.
